TAXIS: Shared and private taxis are plentiful and make your holidays in Cyprus easier. It is advisable to book in advance and hotel receptions can help you with the booking.
DRIVING: Drive on left in Cyprus. Roads signs are in English and Greek and distances are marked in km. All roads on the entire island are toll free. Cyprus accepts driving licenses of all EU Member States and any person with a valid license may drive legally on it in Cyprus.
Driving in Cyprus is almost a necessity as public transport services are not available to all areas or to all times. Well-maintained, good-sized roads connect the villages and the towns, with four lane motorway connecting the main towns. Drivers should always have sunglasses available as the glare light can be dangerously blinding, particularly in summer. The speed limit on motorways is 100 km/h, regional roads 80 km/h and built up areas 50 km/h.
WEATHER: Cyprus has a typical Mediterranean climate with sunshine nearly every day. The weather is characterized by long, hot and dry summers and mild winters. Autumn and spring do not really exist and the rainy season is short. During summer blue skies are guaranteed and gentle sea breezes moderate the heat on the coastal resorts. During winter the temperatures remain pleasant, but there can be snow and rainfall in the interior of Troodos Mountains.
AIRPORTS: Cyprus has two International Airports: Larnaca International Airport at 5km outside of Larnaca and Paphos International Airport at 15km east of Paphos. Both airports include airport facilities like bureau de change, ATM and bank, bar, café and restaurant, medical centre, duty free.
Also there are available taxi transfers from both airports and Intercity bus services from Larnaca airport.

Ayia Napa, famous for its beaches and nightlife, was built for fun in the sun!! Attracting nearly a quarter of the island's tourists, Ayia Napa is one of the most popular resorts in Europe. Ayia Napa Monastery: Built like a medieval castle around 1500 AD and dedicated to "Our Lady of the Forest", Ayia Napa Monastery is the best known landmark of the village and surrounding area. The ancient sycamore tree in front of the south gate is believed to be over 600 years old.
"Thalassa" Sea Museum: The "Thalassa" Sea Museum in the centre of Ayia Napa is housed in a modern multi-purpose building and aims to promote awareness of the marine heritage of Cyprus from prehistoric times to the present. Pride of place among the exhibits is a life-size, functioning replica of a 4th century Greek trading ship that sunk off the coast of Keryneia.
Cape Greco National Park: It is believed that a temple dedicated to Aphrodite once existed in the Cape Greco area. Cape Greco National Park is an area of unique natural beauty, where one can admire magnificent cliff formation. Many of the 36 different orchid species growing on the island are found here, as well as crocuses and irises.

Deryneia: Deryneia village has three important churches, the 17th century small church of Ayios Georgios, the 15th century chapel of Ayia Marina and a church of Virgin Mary with exquisite 17th century icons. The Folk Art Museum consists of a folk art items from the past centuries collection.
Sotira Village: Sotira was an important village in Byzantine times. There are five interesting Byzantine churches in the village, particularly as regards their architecture and beautiful wall paintings.
Liopetri Village: In the village of Liopetri is a 16th century church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and a 15th century church of Ayios Andronikos. Liopetri has an ongoing tradition for basket making.

Agia Thekla Beach Located three kilometers west of the centre of Ayia Napa, this small Blue Flag beach is named after a tiny old church situated nearby. Kermia Beach A Blue Flag beach located on the west side of Cape Greco, two kilometers east of Ayia Napa on the main road leading to Cape Greco. Konnos Beach Situated four kilometers east of Ayia Napa on the road between Cape Greco and Protaras, this Blue Flag beach is the last beach delineating the boundaries between Ayia Napa and Paralimni. One of the most picturesque beaches on the island with fine golden sands it is sheltered from heavy winds and has practically no waves at all. INTRODUCTION
Birthplace of the stoic philosopher Zeno and second home of St. Lazaros, Larnaca originally known as Kition, is today the main entrance gate of the island through its International Airport.
No other place on the island is a better proof of East and West cultural mingle, as both Christianity and Islam have revered religious sites here, with the mosque of Hala Sultan and the church of St. Lazarus.
Without the other Cypriot resorts´ polish and often overlooked, Larnaca has a charming laid-back attitude and friendly people. Today, modern Larnaca is a bustling town with hotels and resort-complexes springing up on the outskirts of the town that surprisingly managed to retain a good deal of the Levantine charm.
The Palm Tree Promenade (Phinicoudes) lined with cafes, tavernas, shops and bars, has at one end the lovely marina frequented by yachtsmen from all over the world, and at the other end the town´s 17th century Fort. And don´t miss the large salt lake, especially during the winter months when it is home to thousands of flamingos and other migratory birds.
Scuba divers can explore Zenobia, a passenger ferry which sank in 1983 and is now rated as one of the world´s top ten wrecks.
The whole district of Larnaca has something to offer to the visitor, including Chirokitia, the island´s oldest Neolithic settlement, Stavrovouni Monastery and the famous church of Angeloktisti.

WHO GOES TO LARNACA?
Who ever is looking for a relaxed, leisurely atmosphere, away from the mainstream bustle. Larnaca is suitable for both couples and families and during the winter season it is a perfect choice for elderly people. Not suitable for very young people. Due to its location in the International Airport proximity, it is also a favorite among business travelers.
Larnaca is known for its annual celebration of Kataklysmos or the Festival of the Flood, celebrated in the early summer 40 days after the Greek Orthodox Easter. The annual fair takes place on the Palm Tree Promanade (Phinicoudes) with feasting, singing, dancing and enthusiastic water games.

Larnaca Fort
Built in 1625 on the Larnaca seafront, it was used as a prison in the first years of British rule. It now houses a small archaeological museum, and it is also used as the Larnaca Municipal Cultural Centre.
Ayios Lazaros Church
9th century church built over the actual tomb of St. Lazarus who actually lived and died in Cyprus. The iconostasi is an excellent example of baroque wood carving.
Kition
Located in the middle of the city, it is the most important ancient city-kingdom with architectural remains dating back to the 13th century, with fortified walls and 5 temples.
Hala Sultan Tekke
An important place of Muslim pilgrimage located at the Salt Lake. Built in 1816 over the tomb of Umm Haram, a relative of Prophet Mohammed, it is a complex made up of a mosque, a mausoleum and a minaret.
Chirokitia
32km from Larnaca. Included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage official list, it is one of the earliest Neolithic cultures in the world, found in a better state of preservation than most other of this period, not only in Cyprus but in the whole Mediterranean region.
Stavrovouni Monastery
40km from Larnaca. Stavrovouni means the Mountain of the Cross and its said that was founded by St. Helena, mother of Constantine the Great.Fragment of the Holy Cross to be seen. Women are not allowed and visiting hours are limited.
Lefkara Village
40km from Larnaca, it is a traditional village with original architecture. It is famous for its lace known as â01CLefkaritikaâ01D and for its silver ware. According to the tradition, Leonardo da Vinci purchased lace of Lefkara for the Milan Cathedral.
Angeloktisti Church
11km from Larnaca. Angeloktisti means "Built by the Angel". 11th century Byzantine church built over the ruins of an early Christian basilica. A rare 6th century mosaic of the Virgin Mary and Child.
Near Lefkara. 15th century convent with a church at the centre of the cloisters. The nuns are famous for their icon painting and honey production.

Phinicoudes Beach
One of the most famous in Cyprus, the Blue Flag beach has fine grey sand and is some 500m long. The area is popular for its cafes, bars and restaurants. INTRODUCTION
Situated between the two ancient kingdoms of Kourion and Amathus and backed by the majestic Troodos Mountains, Limassol is a city of excess. The history of Limassol is undoubtedly established with the arrival of King Richard the Lionheart in 1191 and much has changed since.

Limassol Medieval Fort Built in the 14th Century on the site of an earlier Byzantine castle it houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum. It was there that, according to tradition, Richard Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre and crowned her queen of England in 1791.

Amathus Ancient Site 11km east of Limassol town centre. One of the ancient city-kingdoms of Cyprus where, according to mythology, Theseus left the pregnant Ariadne to be taken care of after his battle with the Minotaur.
Kolossi Castle 14km west of Limassol on the road to Paphos. Medieval castle served as the Grand Commandery of the Knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.
Kourion Museum 14km west of Limassol, 4 km before Kourion site. Collection of finds from nearby archaeological sites, exhibited in a beautiful old house.
Kourion 19km west of Limassol on the road to Paphos. An important ancient city-kingdom and one of the most spectacular archaeological sites on the island where excavations still bring new treasures to light.
Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates 3km west of Kourion. Apollo Hylates, God of the Woodland and protector of the city of Kourion was celebrated here. Ruins of temple, bath complex, pilgrim halls, the palaistra and a holy precinct. Excavations still in progress.
PLACES TO EXPLORE
Trooditissa Monastery 40km from Limassol on the Platres-Prodromos road. Beautiful monastery with many valuable icons including a priceless icon of the Virgin Mary. A large religious fair is held in the grounds on the 15th of august.
Kykko Monastery Founded in 1100 it is the largest, most popular and richest monastery in Cyprus. Golden icon of Virgin Mary, allegedly painted by Saint Luke. The Museum Of Kykkos houses an important collection of sacred vessels and Cypriot antiquities.
Breweries Limassol is also known for its breweries. There are two breweries in Cyprus, the local KEO and Carlsberg. Escorted tours can be arranged to these two breweries, which are usually followed by an offer of a free, cold Beer!
Wine tasting Limassol lies in Cyprus' main wine producing region and you can spend an enjoyable afternoon wine tasting in the pretty villages of Lania or Omodhos.

Waterparks Away from the beaches the Wet'n'Wild and Fasouri "Watermania" waterparks tempt with their slides and pools. The Fasouri "Watermania" is the biggest on the island spreaded out on fourteen acres and with thirty different slides.

Ladies' Mile Located near the New Limassol Port, only 10-15 minute drive from the town centre, has long golden sandy beach and crystal clear shallow waters which makes it ideal for families with children. Byzantine Museum An interesting collection of artifacts Byzantine period, including Byzantine icons from the 7h to 18th century and one of the oldest icons found in Cyprus.
Tombs of the Kings One of the major archaeological attractions of Pafos, these monumental underground tombs carved out of solid rock date back to the 4th century B.C. High rank officials rather than Kings were buried here, but the magnificence of the tombs gave the locality its grand name.
Pafos Mosaics The mosaic floors of these noblemen's villas dating from the 3rd to the 5th centuries A.D. and depicting mainly scenes from Greek mythology, are considered among the finest in the eastern Mediterranean. The mosaics at the House of Dionysos depict the god of wine.
"Limeniotissa" Christian Basilica The Basilica dates back to the beginning of the 5th century. It was finally destroyed by an earthquake in 1159.
Saranta Kolones Castle Saranta Kolones (Forty Columns) is a Frankish castle built by the Lusignans toward the end of the 13th century on the site of a previous Byzantine castle and was destroyed by an earthquake in 1222.
Pafos Odeon A small 2nd century Odeon entirely built of well-hewn limestone blocks and regularly used now days for musical and theatrical performances.
Pafos Medieval Fort Originally a Byzantine fort built to protect the harbour, the fort was rebuilt by the Lusignans in the 13th century, but then dismantled by the Venetians. It was rebuilt by the Ottomans in the 16th century when they conquered the island.
Ayia Solomoni Church Catacomb A small underground complex of chamber tombs from the Hellenistic period to which almost every medieval pilgrim paid a visit. A sacred tree grows above.
Panagia Chrysopolitissa Church Built in the 13th century, over the ruins of the largest early Byzantine Basilica on the island. Within the compound can be seen the St. Paul Pillar where according to tradition Saint Paul was flogged.

Petra tou Romiou 25km from Pafos. According to legend, this strikingly beautiful spot ("the Rock of the Greek") is associated with Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty who rose here from the waves.
Temple of Aphrodite 14km from Pafos. The ruins of the famous Temple of Aphrodite located in Palaepafos, Old Pafos, go back to the 12th century B.C. The temple was one of the most important places of cult and pilgrimage of the ancient world till the 3rd-4th century A.D.
Baths of Aphrodite 48km from Pafos. Located in the Akamas peninsula, its derived its name from a small grotto shaded by an old fig tree, in the waters of which, legend has it, the goddess Aphrodite used to bathe. A trail from the baths takes you to Fontana Amorosa (8km from the Baths).
Akamas 48 km from Pafos. The northwestern peninsula of Cyprus, known as Akamas, is a wild uninhabited region with spectacular landscapes and beaches. The nature trails that cross the peninsula pass through unspoiled areas of extreme physical beauty with over 500 different types of plants. The area is ideal for hiking, diving and swimming in crystal clear waters.
Yeroskipou Village 3km from Pafos. With its remarkable five-domed Byzantine church of Ayia Paraskevi built in the 11th century and its Folk Museum, the village is known for many years now for its special delight "loukoumi".
Ayios Neophytos Monastery 9km from Pafos. Founded around 1200 by the Cypriot hermit and writer Neofytos, contains some of the finest Byzantine frescoes dating from the 12th to 15th century.
Chrysoroyiatissa Monastery 40km from Pafos. The monastery dedicated to Our Lady of the Golden Pomegranate, was originally founded in the 12th century but the present building dates to 1770 and has a collection of important icons and treasures. An impressive religious ceremony is held on the 15th of August.
Polis 37km from Pafos. The town of Polis is the location where once stood the ancient city-kingdom of Marion, an important commercial centre in the Classical and Hellenistic period. Today has become a popular sea-side resort that maintains its beauty and many of its traditional buildings.
Laona Region The area near the town of Polis and the Akamas area rising to about 600m above sea, includes picturesque villages such as Ineia, Drouseia, Kathikas, Pano and Kato Akourdelia, all with panoramic views across the area.
Lara Bay Lara Bay, also known as the turtle beach, situated in the Akamas Peninsula, is a turtle sanctuary on a long stretch of coastline where attempts are being made to protect turtles and provide safe sites for their egg laying.

INTRODUCTION
With a waterfront promenade overlooking the Mediterranean and only 15 minutes drive away from Ayia Napa,Protaras is best known as a family resort with idyllic sandy beaches as the famous Fig Tree Bay. The little church of Ayios Elias is overlooking the resort from the high of 100m step ascent offering a breathtaking view of the area especially close at sunset.

WHO GOES TO PROTARAS?
Who ever is looking for a relaxed, leisurely atmosphere suitable for both couples and families. As most of the hotels and apartments cater particularly well for children and the beaches have shallow waters, Protaras is a favorite particularly with those with small children. Cape Greco National Park It is believed that a temple dedicated to Aphrodite once existed in the Cape Greco area. Cape Greco National Park is an area of unique natural beauty, where one can admire magnificent cliff formation. Many of the 36 different orchid species growing on the island are found here, as well as crocuses and irises.

Ayia Napa Monastery Built like a medieval castle around 1500 AD and dedicated to "Our Lady of the Forest", Ayia Napa Monastery is the best known landmark of the village and surrounding area. The ancient sycamore tree in front of the south gate is believed to be over 600 years old.
Deryneia Deryneia village has three important churches, the 17th century small church of Ayios Georgios, the 15th century chapel of Ayia Marina and a church of Virgin Mary with exquisite 17th century icons. The Folk Art Museum consists of a folk art items from the past centuries collection.
Sotira Village Sotira was an important village in Byzantine times. There are five interesting Byzantine churches in the village, particularly as regards their architecture and beautiful wall paintings.
Liopetri Village In the village of Liopetri is a 16th century church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and a 15th century church of Ayios Andronikos. Liopetri has an ongoing tradition for basket making.

Fig Tree Bay One of Cyprus best known and most popular beaches, Fig Tree beach takes its name form the tree that provided shade to locals before the area's popularity with tourists. With its long stretch of fine, white sand, clean and shallow water, the beach is a favorite with everybody. The small rocky island a short swim away and the blue-green water all contribute to the idyllic setting. The beach Blue Flag beach is well equipped with restaurant and water sport facilities and is situated in the heart of Protaras.
Pernera Beach A Blue Flag beach that stretches up to 200m and long has fine sand and shallow waters. There are restaurants and water sports including diving center.
Vrisi Beach This is a sandy Blue Flag beach situated in Paralimni. Has water sports facilities on site, accommodation facilities, pubs and taverns nearby. Lifeguards on duty.
Kapparis Beach Located at the end of a one kilometers track in Kapparis area outside Paralimni, this is a relatively secluded beach with golden sand and shallow clear waters. The furthest of the beaches in the free Famagusta area, it has basic facilities and is popular with locals.
