This tour takes you through mountain villages and pine-clad hillsides just below the summit of Mount Olympus, which at 1,952 metres is the highest point on the island. From there we travel to Throni to see the tomb of Archbishop Makarios, who became the first President of the Republic of Cyprus when it gained its independence in 1960. Throni offers spectacular views across the mountains. We then visit Kykko, the island’s largest and most spectacular monastery, and there is the chance to see the precious icon of Our Lady with the infant Christ that is said to have been painted by the apostle Luke. As we return to Limassol we visit the pretty village of Omodhos, well known for its wines and intricate lace work. It is very picturesque as its white stone houses line the cobbled streets around the Monastery of the Holy Cross.
* Please note, visitors to all monasteries are requested to be properly dressed. During the winter months, Kykko Monastery and Throni are visited only if weather conditions permit, otherwise another monastery is visited.
