Nicosia is a bustling European city with well-known stores that are perfect for enthusiastic shoppers. We start our day with a visit to the Archaeological Museum containing priceless artefacts of the island’s past.
Alternatively you may prefer to spend time in the city’s excellent shopping centre and to explore Laiki Yitonia - ‘the people’s neighbourhood’, which was built in the 19th century and recently restored with tavernas and craft workshops. After lunch the tour follows the ‘Green Line’ that divides Nicosia in two, the 16th century Venetian Wall, the Famagusta Gate and the monument of Freedom. Afterwards, we visit St. John’s Cathedral decorated with outstanding frescoes and the Byzantine Museum,
which houses the largest collection of icons on the island.
