The resort of Protaras was developed after the closure of Famagusta and is situated just 15 minutes from Ayia Napa.  It is best known as a family resort with idyllic sandy beaches such as the famous Fig Tree Bay.  Relaxing and scenic it is also famous for its windmills, which pump irrigation water to the surrounding agricultural area, which is known as “Kokkinochoria” or Red Villages due to its mineral-rich red soil.

It is by no means complete but will perhaps whet your appetite.  Museum opening hours may sometimes vary but generally they are open all days of the week from 08:30 until 16:00 and are closed on public holidays.  Please remember that when visiting churches and monasteries you should be respectfully dressed so please ensure knees and shoulders are covered.
