Paphos District Paphos Area Paphos Center

Paphos has an attractive harbour where you can enjoy the fish taverns and cafes while watching the colourful fishing boats and pleasure craft which anchor in the lee of the Medieval Fortress just a few minutes away many major archaeological sites.

Founded by Agapinor, a hero of the Trojan War from Arkadia, Paphos was the capital of the island in Ptolemean times.  In the 15th century BC the city was razed by an earthquake and was rebuilt with the help of Emperor Octavian August.  Here, according to legend, Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty rose from the sea.

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the villages in the area and don’t miss the chance to try the traditional Cyprus sweet “loukoumi” or Cyprus Delight for which Yeroskipou village is well known.

Polis & Latchi
North of Paphos and situated on the edge of the Akamas National Park, Polis and Latchi are the ideal base for nature lovers and walkers. Still retaining much of their traditional village atmosphere you can relax at Latchi harbour with its restaurants or enjoy the beach area and the Baths of Aphrodite where legend would have us believe that bathing in the waters brings back youth. Polis Square has a charm of its own with shady tavernas and cafes where you can while away an hour or so, people watching.
