Limassol, Lemesos in Greek, is a resort within a 10-mile coastline, a busy shopping centre with its countless taverns and restaurants, cafes and discos. Nightlife will suit everyone, ranging from modest to sophisticated. With it’s fun – loving reputation, Limassol stages some of the island’s best known festivals: The Wine Festival in September, the Carnival Festival in February and the Drama Festival at the ancient Kourion.
Limassol is the second largest town of the island, after Nicosia. Situated between the two ancient kingdoms of Kourion and Amathus, it was not able to spread and grow in population while these two cities flourished. The history of Limassol is undoubtedly established with the arrival in Cyprus of King Richard the Lionheart during the third Crusade. |
